‘If you don’t have dreams they will never come true’

The head lines in the Employment section of today’s paper read ‘Gun for the top. How to sound, look and act like an executive’. This reminds me of what my good friend Dilip Kumar used to preach. If you are to be seen out, be seen in the best clothes you have for the occasion, be seen at the best bars or restaurants with the high flyers even if it means drinking water. He went on to be a very successful, owning a business with a turn over in the 100’s of millions….must read the article.

My Father was a successful amateur Boxer and from the moment I could walk I either had a pair of Boxing gloves on or I had a Football at my feet. One situation my Dad used to often talk about was late one night; there was a knock at the front door. On opening it standing before my Dad was a 6’ 4”, 200lbs drunk Irish man apparently named Paddy ..true.. who was intent that my Dad was having it off with his wife… in the house there and then…..Dad gave one thought about his own pregnant wife and his young daughter asleep upstairs. Without thinking any more Dad gave Paddy a good smack and down went Paddy. The Police arrived and Paddy spent the night behind bars to cool down. Now I am not advocating violence as I believe there is far too much of that in the world today. The lesson Dad was conveying to us was that it is best to act sooner than later. The best form of defence is attack, get in and have a go; if you are facing troubled waters build a bridge and act quickly. What troubled waters are you facing and are you building a bridge? If not do it now, give Paddy a whack figuratively speaking.

Why it is when you are walking in a straight line in the shopping centre people head straight for you and get in your way. Can’t they walk straight or is it a gravity thing? Must remember when it happens next time to take note if the person is smaller then me or if there is a big person ahead; see if I gravitate towards them.

This morning I was out walking and I was approaching two men walking toward me, it didn’t seem they were together. The first guy was tall and of medium build, the other guy who was trailing behind was about 5’6” and of a slight build. As I was just about to pass the first guy, the smaller bloke decided to engage in an overtaking move on the first guy laying a fair hip and shoulder on me…..WHAT THE!!!

Now I am not a small guy being about 6”1” and 90kg and I treat body as a temple. Exercise and pump weights. And my wife the beautiful Donna says I am in better shape now than when we first met 20 odd years ago. Well that’s what Donna says and I am not sure if that is to keep me happy, but I’ll take the compliment. Any way what was the guy thinking? It could have been ugly … luckily I run fast; won my last fight by 500 yards.

As I said I keep fit, why is it that when you go to the gym people try and park their cars as close to the entrance as possible?

Just been shopping I bought 4 items. Half a bunch of celery, 4 apples, 2kg of rice and 1kg of lentils and not much change from $20.00….. Me thinks I must start growing my own vegetables. No wonder Donna sends me out for the big ticket items… the cost of it all!

The News was just on the radio.. how appropriate the lead in was ‘we have to be careful of people not falling into a self defeating depression of woe’ WHAT! Sorry, speak to the politicians and beaurcrate the next item on the news was the raising unemployment rates and IMF believes it initial forecast of the down turn in the Global Economy was under estimated and next year will be a lot worse than first thought.. talk about self defeating depression of woe
